We are proud to say that Smartwhip is officially compensating for the production of Nitrous oxide! We are confident with the innovation and the benefits the Smartwhip cream chargers present to professional chefs and the catering industry. Yet we recognise the environmental impact of Nitrous oxide and understand that we must find the balance between production and diminishing our harmful impact on the environment, which is why we are constantly searching for ways to be as sustainable as possible.
We have been taking small steps in this direction, including the production of Smartwhip cylinders using recyclable material. In fact, the design of the cylinder (which contains a much larger amount of Nitrous oxide) uses a lower amount of steel than traditional chargers, which means that the manufacturing of Smartwhip has a lower pollution rate than that of traditional chargers.
Smartwhip are glad to take an even bigger step towards becoming a N2O compensated company, which is accomplished through the Urban Street Forest Foundation (USF) in cooperation with farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa. As an onset to becoming a more sustainable company, Smartwhip has track-record of planting 120.000 trees in 2020, and 132.000 trees in 2021, to offset the greenhouse gas effects of our nitrous oxide products and have a goal to plant at least a 120,000 trees a year.
USF uses the other part of the compensation budget to conduct research in the field of reforestation, create an education program, construct water retention basins to restore water tables, and for organizing children’s tree planting days in cities and towns. In this way, not only the trees needed to compensate are planted but also other practical and educational sustainability projects are funded in addition to an ongoing research program.
